Intra-Company Transfer Work Permit

An Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) work permit allows multinational companies to transfer employees from an overseas branch to a Canadian branch. This process helps the Canadian branch benefit from the employee's skills and expertise.

Types of Employees:

  • Executives: Senior employees directing the management of the company or a major component.

  • Managers: Employees managing a function or subdivision, supervising other managers or professional employees.

  • Specialized Knowledge Workers: Employees with advanced expertise and proprietary knowledge about the company's products, services, processes, or procedures.

Qualifications:

Employer:

  1. Qualifying Relationship: Parent, branch, subsidiary, or affiliate relationship with foreign entity.

  2. Active Business: Both entities must be actively engaged in business.

Employee:

  1. Employment History: Worked full-time for the foreign company for at least one year in the last three years.

  2. Position in Canada: Executive, senior manager, or specialized knowledge worker.

Program Benefits:

  1. No LMIA Required: ICT work permits are LMIA-exempt, streamlining the application process.

  2. Fast Processing: Often processed more quickly than other work permits.

  3. Pathway to Permanent Residency: Work experience gained under an ICT permit can count towards permanent residency applications (e.g., Canadian Experience Class).
