Bridging Open Work Permit

The Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) allows individuals who are already in Canada and whose current work permit is about to expire to continue working while they await the decision on their application for permanent residency. This permit helps bridge the gap between the expiration of a current work permit and the issuance of permanent resident status.

Qualifications:

  • In-Canada Applicants: You must be in Canada on a valid work permit that is due to expire within the next four months.

  • Permanent Residency Application: You must have applied for permanent residency under one of the following programs and received a confirmation of receipt:

    • Federal Skilled Worker Program

    • Canadian Experience Class

    • Federal Skilled Trades Program

    • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

    • Caring for Children Class or Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class

    • You must maintain valid temporary resident status in Canada.

    • You must meet all the conditions of your current work permit until the BOWP is approved.

Program Benefits:

  • Work Continuity: Allows you to continue working in Canada without interruption while your permanent residency application is processed.

  • Flexibility: As an open work permit, it provides the flexibility to change employers or job roles.

  • Family Members: Your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children may also be eligible for open work permits, study permits, or visitor records.
